Group therapy

In our modern world, filled with challenges and psychological pressures, supporting and participating in mental health is essential. In this context, group therapy emerges as a powerful and effective tool to create a safe and supportive space for sharing experiences and life challenges.

What is group therapy?
It is a form of psychotherapy where one or more therapists conduct several therapeutic sessions with clients, including up to 15 individuals. The group meets for an hour or two weekly to discuss their feelings and problems and provide mutual support. The therapist chooses a therapeutic issue and sometimes allows group members to select the session’s topic. There is a significant amount of interaction and discussion among group members.

How beneficial is group therapy for mental health?
The greatest advantage of group therapy is helping clients realize that they are not alone in experiencing such symptoms; there are others with similar issues, which aids in treatment and provides comfort. Group therapy can also help develop new skills for communicating with others, especially since communication can solve many psychological problems. Additionally, group members with the same problem can support each other and be a source of hope. Sometimes, the group includes members at different stages of treatment, and seeing those recovering gives hope to those at the beginning of their treatment. It also helps in self-discovery and achieving collective insight among individuals into a healthy reality as an alternative to a diseased one. Group therapy may be more effective when members face similar difficulties and are at similar levels.

Types of Group Therapy
1. Open Therapeutic Groups: These are groups that new members can join at any time.
2. Closed Therapeutic Groups: All members start simultaneously in these groups.
