Being hurt and humiliated by others is something unacceptable for all people, but there is some of people who relish such humiliation and torture, there are masochistic people.

Masochistic personality disorder
It is a psychosexual disorder that manifests itself in the form of a desire and enjoyment to be humiliated and assaulted by others, whether psychologically, sexually or physically.

Causes of masochism:
There are many reasons, the main of which are:
1) repressed sexual thoughts and fantasies become more urgent after time, and a person finds pleasure and excitement in practicing them on himself.

2) What a person suffered in childhood from sexual abuse or domestic violence, such as harassment or rape, and this led to the emergence of an almost random disorder in his behavior.

Signs of masochistic personality
1) continuation of toxic relationships and excessive tolerance with them.
2) termination of good and close friendships on flimsy reasons.
3) maintenance of self-lacing.
4) inability to perform simple personal tasks.

Masochistic personality and sexual relationship with a partner
The masochistic personality is clearly manifested in the sexual relationship, as he enjoys pain and torture during the relationship, and he only feel pleasure and excitement by this way from the partner; by beating, humiliating, or insulting.

Masochism in Egyptian drama
The Egyptian drama dealt with masochism personality disorder, and this was clearly shown in the series “el Laila welly feha”, where the artist “Zeina” embodied the role of Rasha with that disorder, and it appeared through Rasha’s exposure to sexual assaults in childhood made her enjoy pain and torture,
especially during the sexual relationship, which made her betray her husband, who she could not tell that she wanted to beat and abuse during sexual relationship.

Treatment of masochistic personality disorder
There are several ways in which this disorder can be treated, depending on the nature of the case, including:
1) cognitive-behavioral therapy: through it a person learns about this behavior, its dimensions, the cognitive errors surrounding it, and performs homework required by the treating psychologist to help him overcome this disorder.
2) clairvoyant-oriented therapy: this is through which we know the patient’s history, study his condition, and his medical history to get to the reasons behind this behavior.
3) pharmacotherapy: this is through some medications prescribed by the physician, especially if there are signs of an accompanying psychological disorder such as depression, schizophrenia, or dissociation disorder.
