Why do women feel pain during sexual intercourse?
Loved ones and soon-to-be married people imagine that sexual relations will be perfect, but this is not always the case, and it is frustrating for women and their partners, and there are many reasons that increase women’s perception of pain. Therefore, we present the most important reasons and recommendations to address or mitigate these issues.
1- Incompatibility between the spouses:
Incompatibility between spouses can affect their sexual relationship, because their sexual desires are incompatible, and the solution to this problem is to have understanding and consideration for the desire of the other party, without forcing the other person to engage in sexual relations against his will.
2- Dryness of the vaginal area
Vaginal dryness results from an imbalance in the estrogen hormone in women and can be treated by eating foods that contain both saturated and unsaturated fats and drinking water constantly. Hydration helps keep the vaginal mucosa moisturized. External moisturizers may also be used.
3- Using birth control pills
A link has been found between pain during sexual intercourse in women and taking birth control pills, so it can be replaced with hormone replacement therapy, which helps restore hormonal balance so that pain during sexual intercourse decreases.
4- Inflammation of the female organs
It is a chronic painful condition that affects a woman’s external genitalia, making her extremely sensitive to everything. It is treated with “probiotics”, which are nutritional supplements for live bacteria in addition to helping to relieve any inflammation around the walls of the vagina.
5- The disproportion of the genitals between the spouses:
Pain in sexual relations is accompanied by the size of the genitals, and lubricant can help in some cases, but it will not help if the penis bumps into the cervix, in which case it is recommended to change the intimate position.
6- Endometrial infections
This inflammation, caused by secretions or a bacterial infection, affects a small number of women but is extremely painful and is treated endoscopically.
7- Menopause
After menopause, women experience sexual relations very differently as certain parts of the vulva and vagina become more sensitive causing pain during sexual intercourse which can be resolved by talking to your husband into consideration or by consulting your gynecologist.
8- Pressure and tension
Relaxation is an important factor in preparing for a sexual relationship. If a woman is stressed, this may cause her to feel more sad, in addition to taking into account his wife’s unwillingness, and this increases her sense of tension.
9- Childbirth
It can take up to six weeks to allow the vagina to return to its original shape after childbirth and to physically prepare the woman to resume sexual activity.
10- Episiotomy
The perineum is the area of muscles and ligaments that extend between the vagina and the anus, and the episiotomy is a simple surgical incision made in this area to protect it from random tears during natural childbirth, so some women may experience pain in this area, which can be treated with medication or surgery .
11- Unexplained sexual pain
Sometimes a woman may feel pain for an unknown reason during sexual relations, but scientists suggest that it may be due to weakness in the pelvic floor area or due to inflammation of the nerves.
Finally, the pain of sexual intercourse in women can be treated by using lubricants or by telling the partner about the pain without resorting to treatment, and agreeing to change the positions of the practice of intimacy.
