What does a psychotherapist do?
A psychotherapist is an individual who dedicates his life and efforts to helping people cope with health problems
Mental, psychological and overcoming them.
He is a professional and trained to help people with problems that affect their lives
Both psychological and mental health threaten all different aspects of his life, such problems as:
(Depression, anxiety, insomnia, addiction, bipolar disorder, negative behavior patterns, dysphoria
bipolar, schizophrenia, and other debilitating emotions)
Psychotherapist use what is known as talk therapy to help sufferers live better and healthier lives.
It has been proven that psychotherapy improves the emotions and behavior of the individual and makes him look at his surroundings in a positive way, as talk therapy offers effective methods as:
Provide problem solving
Make the problem an issue for discussion
Helping the patient understand what he is going through
Helping the patient to change his behavior and actions
Talk therapy also helps treat mental and emotional health challenges and symptoms
By helping a person understand their pent-up feelings, and helping them to build resilience
and the challenges of his life, whether in the present or the future.
As one of the most important things that a psychotherapist does to support patients is to help them manage their mental health so that they can lead their lives in a healthy way, and this includes maintaining relationships, whether at work or family relationships
Which reflects on them improving their quality of life.
The patient should know that the time it takes for the treatment journey may differ from person to person to see
Positive results and this is determined based on the initial diagnosis, their support system and the patients themselves.
Some feel better after a few sessions, others may take years and a large number
From sessions until the case reaches the desired result.
But before we get started there is something absolutely essential that the patient needs to understand that they have a problem
And that they develop a desire for treatment and accept the need for change and follow the treatment plan advised by the specialist.
It has been proven that about 75% of people who undergo psychotherapy have benefited and recovered from it.
How do the psychotherapy sessions go?
There is more than one form of treatment sessions, it can be done individually, for the family, or even for the couple
If they are having problems in their relationship.
What are the types of psychotherapy?
Psychiatrists and mental health professionals use different types of treatment, depending on which one you choose
The type of treatment depends on the patient’s condition.
1- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which helps people identify patterns of thinking and behaviour
Harmful or ineffective and change them, replace them with good thoughts and behaviors, and helps focus, and solving problems and how to deal with them.
It is also considered useful in treating a variety of disorders such as depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders, and eating disorders.
2-Interpersonal therapy (IPT) It is a type of short-term therapy that helps patients understand troublesome problems such as conflicts and problems related to others, and can help people learn correct ways to express their feelings and improve communication.
3- Dialectical behavior therapy, a type that helps regulate emotions and is used to treat people who suffer from chronic suicidal thoughts or who suffer from borderline personality disorder, eating disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
4- This type of therapy teaches new skills to help patients take personal responsibility and change unhealthy or disruptive behaviors and can be done individually or through collective therapy.
5- Psychodynamic therapy is based on the idea that behavior and mental well-being in puberty are influenced by childhood experiences and inappropriate repetitive thoughts or feelings (occurring outside a person’s consciousness).
This type of therapy requires the effort of both the doctor and the patient to improve self-awareness and change old patterns so that they can take responsibility for their life in a full and mature manner.
6- Supportive therapy: It is used to guide, encourage and help patients to develop themselves and self-esteem, reduce anxiety, improve social and community performance, and also improve the ability to deal with mental health issues that affect the rest of life.
7- Psychoanalysis, which is more general and comprehensive than psychodynamic therapy.
